Today I address all those working stiffs we call dad. Whether you are a contractor, cat-fish catcher, cowboy, or city-man, if you have family, peace be with you. Trust me; I’ve been all of the above, complete with family. It ain’t easy. The peace part comes when your kids go out on their own, and in today’s world, good luck with that! Family revolves around dad, whether he is prepared or not, so get it together, gentlemen. This one is for you.
SHOULDER THE LOAD
Man manages growing, without being killed,
Surrounded from birth, with both fools and strong-willed.
Expected by maleness, nature bestowed,
Take up the reins; time to shoulder the load.
Knowing you bear responsibility,
The guy can’t complain; that’s how it must be.
Work till you drop, or head about to explode,
Confidence shaken, but no failure mode.
Feeling the pressure, from brunt you have born,
But love wife and kids, to them fealty sworn.
Mortal inside knows there’s no secret code,
Worthless, you’re not friend; stride on, bear the load.
Back feels stressed out, mental health not that great,
Mother’s sons expected to carry the weight.
Losers and slackers, long have been winnowed,
Watched them drop out as they tried to freeload.
Burden carried, not borrowed or easy,
Hombre, that’s us; take off if you’re queasy.
Don’t matter much where we travel life’s road,
Take on the burden, men, shoulder the load.
