DAYBREAK CHASING DARK
Many times, I have sat in a lawn chair listening to creatures across the river rustling in the trees.
Only a narrow expanse of water kept me from being killed, or worse. Fog whispered around me, making assurances I was safe. I was not so sure, but the moon above smiled, and all seemed ok. Minutes later, a glow on the horizon and a breeze signaled morning. The mist blew away, and with it, night jitters; ah, life on the river.
DAYBREAK CHASING DARK
Dreary for now, ink is all to see,
River flows in front but unseen to me.
Aliens rove close, noises reach my ears,
Unlit shuffling murk feeds upon the fears.
Mist curls down, water ominous, all dark,
Off in pale moonlight, a dog’s lonely bark.
Tendrils curl all around, wetness then gone,
Breeze shoves fog westward; with wind comes the dawn.
Cockcrow warns shadows, first light on the way,
Enigmatic gloom runs from break of day.
Cattle across creek were once twilight’s spawn,
First blush starts new day, transformed night moves on.
Mamma cows with calves, hungry water bird,
Daybreak brightens land, dissipates monsters heard.
Somber dusk forgotten, dawning made it light,
East sky’s sunshine, black flees without a fight.
Nightfall rolls off, shouting out a warning,
Threats get no response; all to see is morning.
Mysterious Earth spins on into day,
Till dusk gives in to what morn chased away.
