ORIGINAL THIRTEEN
Thirteen; man, that’s an unlucky number, isn’t it?
Our founding fathers didn’t think so; check out how many times the value of thirteen shows up on a one-dollar bill. Thirteen States are represented on our original flag. Tragically, thirteen Marines died in the Afghanistan debacle. We all have our own take on right or wrong goings-on in this world. This is mine. As always, have a good one; enjoy, Steve.
ORIGINAL THIRTEEN
First flag in our land, twelve plus one proud stars
Shining as sovereign dignity long seen.
Left dying needlessly on hostile shore,
Life flickers out while serving, brave thirteen.
Hearing nothing but drivel. “Did Country proud!”
Gutless man deserts us, memories demean.
This banner forgot in the thirteenth hour,
Leader disgraces United States Marine.
Seems calculated, country’s reeling on,
No matter what the move, it’s all smokescreen.
Left sells us out, as Right-hand waves about,
Honor-less, courage defiled, taints thirteen.
Ignorance kills knowledge to know we’re free,
Do we tell our children what could have been?
Or spit on kneelers who insult our home,
Stand, not snake belly low, all serpentine.
Make leaders work toward public will,
If they pay no mind, time to wipe slate clean.
Wake up, make soldiers sacrifice worthwhile,
Remember baker’s dozen, proud thirteen.

I am writing number two in my series of marital discord blogs and poems.
Marital disharmony came to mind as I walked up the drive the other night.
Big game today, or every day for us patriots.
A short 55 years have passed since last I shot myself, seems like only yesterday.
I’ve always been a dog man, oh don’t get me wrong, cats are ok but they just aren’t loyal like a dog, so we had dogs.
A man in church with my wife listened to the sermon and remarked how he guessed we are all “second string angels.”
I’m full up on taking crap and keeping my mouth shut.
My fanciful love story, don’t you love this this time of year!
For some reason, I started thinking about a chicken in the hen-house.
My mind works in devious fashion sometimes, and this one came out at my wife’s request.
