– A U T H O R –
From Pictures of Life, Rhyming Mind Pictures
I have concluded life is all attitude, and so in recognition of that, my next few verses are all about different qualities of the human mind. Sometimes I use me for a model; if you don’t like it tough. Wow, here’s my first one, with an attitude! I hate losing at anything, life is for winning, God never said go lose. This is my full-tilt war song, my attitude for the day.
ONE BATTLE
We’ve lost! Wailed the young warrior,
In feeble evening’s light.
Our brothers lay upon the ground,
And no more shall they fight.
But an older man sternly turned upon him,
His tear-stained face was set.
Weep for your brothers young one,
The war’s not over yet.
One battle was lost today,
Now would you turn and run?
That is how the war is lost,
The fight has just begun.
Never throw your arms up,
Your courage to the wind.
Till no more do you breathe,
You cannot rise again.
The winner is the one,
Whose spirit knows not lose.
Take strength from comrades slain,
Now, which course would you choose?
The younger man, the wiser,
From knowledge, he had not before.
Shouted to the darkening sky,
It’s just a battle, not the war!
Losers die a little each day wondering what could have been; winners go down, once kicking and screaming. Which one are you?
