– A U T H O R –
Let me take a moment to describe the hierarchy of our local cops. In my county, and by extension, our town, the last three sheriffs became filthy rich, if not outright millionaires. This is accomplished by putting confiscated property (read in cattle) on their farms. When the prescribed holding time passes, off to auction they go, fattening the sheriff’s wallet and maybe a chief deputy or two. These old boys have never gone to school, it’s all political, who you know and whom gets paid off. Oh, all of them go to State-wide training, you know several hundred law-men, free booze, etc, etc. This looks good to the constituents and justifies their legal income. Road deputies, and common city cops are paid piddly wages. With the exception of a few who start low, then move on to better places, their caliber reflects the insult wages they allow themselves to be paid. They’ve gotten mean, nasty, resentful, and dangerous if they manage to get you alone. This pretty much consists of every person standing in the cop-shop glaring at me, and as son of an FBI agent, I know the rules, “and break them,” better than most. They chase blindly, I think before setting foot in a car or coming to town. My pockets carry nothing, and I am constantly walking away leaving fuming frustrated lawmen behind me wondering what went wrong. I don’t know it, but I follow the teachings of Sun Tzu, of the Han Dynasty, the most successful warlord that ever lived.
