– A U T H O R –
They are great people, and Doug cooks a mean burger. He’s retired from Cargill, and is now spending his hard-earned money as he sees fit; good for him. Anyway, he and Terry are really fixing the old farm up, which happens to be straight across the road from us, and one we watched deteriorate for years. Now it shines, this is for them.
The old farm sat empty for many a year,
Home to the wildlife, coyote, turkey, and deer.
Nearby neighbors brought in cows, cleaned up the land,
New-born shaky bawl as it struggles to stand.
Ancient barn leaned crazy, the fences gone to hell,
We watched from our rock house, the place we knew well.
One day surprise, folks came, lavished farm with care,
And they dug, fenced, and built in wonderland fair.
Dew sparkles on building, fine lane going in,
The old place looks better since I don’t know when.
Fine creek still flowing past, stock new farmer’s feeding,
City folk got nothing this country boy’s needing.
Welcome neighbors!
