Several of my good buddies have faded into the pale, and still, I recall each one’s endearing traits. In particular, my little red pit and his antics pull on my heartstrings. This is for you and all the friends who have passed you by; enjoy.
EULOGY FOR AN OLD FRIEND
A decade and a half, me and my friend,
Flew by so quickly, never sensing the end.
Happy when I was, sad with me through tears,
Heart always stalwart, best buddy for years.
Trusting, eyes loving, he seldom complained,
We romped through good times, bucked up when it rained.
No worries, or broken hearts, don’t you see?
Gave all of his love, absolutely for free.
That guy would eat junk, whatever I had,
Just thankful for something, eyes shined with glad.
Slowed with each other, liked quiet, not noise,
Time passed on softly, peaceful times our joys.
Grew grayer with years, both of us in truth,
Running long since gone, that sweet wine of youth.
Does not matter much, couch or chair beckon,
Aging together, had perks I reckon.
Old friend left this realm, one fine sunny day,
Good he’s not hurting; heart’s not the same way.
Separation painful, not fading yet,
Best friends, good memories, you seldom forget.
So long, my friend.
